It wasn’t a usual morning at SVS International School. On 21st June, there were no hurried steps to classrooms, no loud morning bells. Instead, the campus felt calm. Students walked in quietly, some with yoga mats rolled under their arms, some half awake but curious. It was Yoga Day — and this year, the school wanted to make it more than just a formality.
Students from Classes 4 to 10 gathered in the courtyard, where the morning sun lit the space gently. The session began without fanfare — just a few quiet instructions and deep breaths. As the yoga instructor guided everyone through the postures, students followed slowly. There were a few stumbles, some laughs during balancing poses, and even a few who just lay flat during Shavasana — but that’s what made it honest. Nobody was pretending to be perfect.
After the yoga session, students took part in an essay writing competition on “Yoga: A Way of Life.” The thoughts shared were thoughtful and raw. One student wrote that yoga helped her stop panicking before exams. Another wrote that five minutes of quiet breathing made him feel better than scrolling for half an hour. The essays felt more like reflections than assignments.
Later in the day, the school hosted a quiz competition focused on yoga — its history, postures, health benefits, and significance in India’s culture. Some questions were tough, but the excitement in the room made it fun. Winners were announced and gifts were distributed, though the real prize was the laughter and learning that filled the hall.
The event had two short but meaningful speeches.
Director Girdhar Singh Sir spoke first. He reminded students that yoga isn’t something you do once a year. “If you can give 10 minutes to your phone every hour, give 10 minutes to your mind once a day,” he said. His message was simple — yoga is self-care, not a show.
Principal Deepak Sharma Sir followed. He spoke about focus, inner calm, and how even five minutes of breathing can change how we respond to stress. “Yoga isn’t about touching your toes. It’s about touching your mind with awareness,” he said, and the students really listened.
The morning ended with a soft chant of ‘Om’ and a quiet promise — to take yoga beyond this one day.
At SVS, we always say that education is not only about marks, but about building healthy, aware, and responsible young people. This Yoga Day wasn’t just a celebration. It was a reminder to slow down and simply breathe.
